Do I have to switch breasts on the same feed?

My 8 day old only eats between 8 and 14 minutes on one side before falling asleep (though we have in the last day or so had him staying awake longer and a couple of times through a feed). I prefer to stay on one side. Does it matter if I switch breasts on the same feed or is every other feed okay?

We always did stack feeding. Whenever I did both breast she would get too much foremilk.

My understanding is they should be using both sides to keep up your flow and to undress them and tickle their feet and back if they fall asleep halfway through.

My daughter only does one at a time and always has, works for us ☺️ Very rarely will she do time on each side, but if she does we just roll with it.

Nope, do whatever works best for you. There are no boob police. I found one side per feed also worked best for me. I’ve had friends who preferred to do a little on each side every feed. I’ve also known people who only nursed on one side ever.... to each their own! If your baby is growing and thriving then you’re doing great!

Yes you should offer the second breast at that age. That’s what all the experts I’ve seen have told me. Just wake them to offer the second. They’ll probably fall asleep again if they are full :) x
