At what point does active labor kick in?

I know everyone and every pregnancy is different. But I’m wondering at what point your body would stop with the gradual dialation and effacement and active labor would kick in.. I’ve heard of people walking around at 5cm for weeks before going into labor but then I’ve also been reading about people having real contractions at 1cm. Thoughts?
I’m 3.5cm and 50% effaced as of today.

Active labour is usually defined as more than 4cm dilated with consistent, stronger contractions that increase in intensity and get longer and closer together.

Active labour is defined as over 4cm dilated or something. You’ll have to check as it could be a little more. Once you’re that dilated you will be admitted to a birth Centre or hospital as they consider you to be in active labour, that’s all it means :) x

Ive been 4cm dilated and 90% effacted at a 0 station for a week now. I only get occasional periods of contractions and they die off. I feel changes daily but I mean everyone is different so theres really no saying.. My dr is seeing me tomorrow and said he might admit me if I'm at a 5cm.
