When to start taking prenatals

Should I start taking prenatals while I’m trying to conceive?

Yes, ASAP. Folic acid prevents neural tube defects (spina bifida) and by the time you know you are pregnant this part of baby has already formed. That’s why they tell you to start them before you start trying. All women of childbearing age are recommended to take folic acid in the event that they become pregnant.

You don’t have to but i always did so i already had everything my body needed for the baby in the first trimester even before i knew i was pregnant. 
With my second i wasn’t taking anything cause i wasn’t trying & was freaked out about things being wrong since i wasn’t taking them but he’s just fine. 
My OB says as long as you eat a balanced diet prenatals arnt even needed. 
( balanced meaning you’re getting the vitamins that would be in the prenatal from foods you’re eating instead of the pill) 
I personally still take mine as a safety measure.
