What dog breed should i get if i’m away from home about 8 hours every weekday?

Answer

It doesn’t matter what breed you get, depending on how young the dog is, preferably a puppy, you can train it with patience and consistency to get used to staying home for a few hours at a time, I’d personally get one if I had a long time of holidays coming up so I could spend time with it to teach it to stay in its room or yard whilst I’m gone because all pups have separation anxiety. I have a 12 week old German shepherd that I got last week of a breeder and the first 3 days was hard!!! But from day one, I started the training and room training. I wouldn’t leave it locked up for 8 hours though, that’s too much for a pup, you leave them alone for how many months they are, so 3 months old is 3-4 hours alone. I start with an hour and there will be crying but it needs to be ignored or it will use that to get what it wants, when she’s settled and quiet whilst in her room I will reward the good behaviour with a treat and let her out and slowly extend the time of alone time .. she picked it up in a week of having her, she can be left for 4 hours being in her room and she sleeps in the laundry at night time and sleeps the whole night as she’s getting used to it now. I wouldn’t leave her for 8 hours until she’s 7-8 months old at least as she can’t hold her wee in for more than 1-2 hours at the moment.
