What is an obstetrics appointment for?

I've got a letter for an obstetrics appointment and I'm confused what this is and what its for. What I've read on Google doesnt add up to why I've got an appointment, also its booked for November and I'll be 7/8 months pregnant by then?

You normally always see a consultant around that time in your pregnancy it will just be routine. To check how things are going ect sometimes you only see them once sometimes you may go back again if they have concerns at your first appointment. 
With my first I went to these appointments every month from 4 months because my blood pressure was always high.
With my 2nd I only went twice at the end.

I went for an obsetrics appointment on Thursday, I was a high risk in my first pregnancy so I had to go to the hospital for my booking appointment, they have put me at high risk again. They just do the normal routine, ask questions about your health and take your bloods ect.

Mines was because I was classed as high risk with my medical issues and possible complications plus a high BMI. But I ended up getting induced with no issues what so ever and a very quick labour/birth. Dont be too worried about it, they will probably go over the "what ifs" so you know ahead of time ❤

I had one because I’m on medication for my mental health. They saw me at 23w and are seeing me again at 30w!

I had to see my obstetrician because at my booking appointment my midwife and I went through all my medical history, and with a couple of issues coming from that plus a high BMI meant I needed to see an OB
