Do you use your dish sponge to wash the counter?

My MIL does the dishes and cleans up the kitchen every time they visit and while I 100% appreciate the help, she uses the dish sponge to wipe the counters and so when they leave I feel like I need a brand new sponge and i need to reclean the counters (I spray and wipe with paper towels). Not sure why it makes me cringe, it just does.

If the sponge is good enough to clean dishes why isnt it to clean counters? 
Unless the sponge is mildew then I dont see the issue. What do you clean it with then?

I use a sponge but we use an older dish sponge. So basically when we break out a new sponge for dishes, the old sponge gets counter duty until it's too old and scrappy to do anything with it.

I don’t use sponges period. They’re filthy, and dishes washed with sponges are dirtier than before they were “washed”.

I have a green dish sponge but I use it just to clean the inside of the sink and the counters. I have a separate sponge for my dishes.

Use the same sponge for both 🤷‍♀️ but I also use my dishwasher to actually wash the dishes so.   Sponges are super dirty!  You are better off using a clean rag every time.  Sponges hold bacteria

No, I don't use the same sponge.
It wouldn't be a big deal though because I have reusable sponges so I'd just throw it in the wash and swap it out.

Im right there with yah! This is one of my pet hates (I'm a clean freak) so much bacteria on dish cloths!

I crochet so I like to use my cotton dishcloths that I make.
