Can I have a beer?

My baby is only 4 days old and I'm breastfeeding but I have been craving a beer SO BAD. I googled it and a few things said to stay away from alcohol until your baby is 3 months old. Anyone else breastfeeding and having a beer?

My doctor actually told me beer helps with milk supply and that it was fine to drink as long as I didn’t start to feel tipsy. The rule I was given is that however you feel after drinking is how your baby will feel. If you feel like it impacted you at all, it will impact baby. One beer doesn’t do anything for me so I drink one usually at the end of the nursing session (like in this photo).

When I breastfed my first I did. No need to pump and dump but I was told if you can drive you can nurse... still make me nervous so I bought those strips that told if there was alcohol in your milk and I waited until there wasn’t any before I breastfed mine. So literally right after I nursed mine id drink one and it was out my system by next feed

I work in an ER and have asked multiple doctors I work with it it’s ok to drink and breast feed and all of them agree that a couple of drinks is fine. Even if a little alcohol passed through your milk it would be such a small amount that couldn’t hurt your baby.

I've had a beer or a glass of wine with dinner several times since giving birth. I exclusively pump but have been told 1 serving of alcohol is fine. 1 night I had a couple drinks, I just marked that milk not for consumption. You can save it and use for milk baths, soap, etc!

Nurse and then have one right away. Just limit how much you have. I had half a beer right after feeding my baby, all was fine. I have heard that as long as you aren’t tipsy you are fine to BF

My Lactation Consultant told me that the best time to drink is during a feeding, or right after. Limit to 1-2 and no need to pump and dump. If you feel the effects of alcohol, that’s when it can pass to the baby and you should dump the milk. 
I did however find that I could only tolerate a few sips at first, then I managed a half (6oz) pour, then I was able to have a full drink. On Saturday my family went to Busch Gardens and it was during the food and wine festival and you bet your ass I was “that mom” nursing my baby in public and enjoying a beer! Cheers! 🍻

Found this online if it helps! I had a glass of wine few nights ago but I’m pumping and using formula too so just used formula afterwards :)
