What do you think of this boy name?

I came across the name Sylvan (meaning forest) a few years ago and have always loved it. But I’m nervous because no one uses it as a name so I’m wondering why, especially since surname names are so popular these days. I don’t want my kid to stand out with a bad name even if I like it!

We thought we decided on the name Sylvie (same meaning as Sylvan) for a girl and decided against it. We decided against it because we started saying it aloud to see if it felt right and the “sil” sound was just too odd for us. Just try saying the name out loud in different tones and see if you still like it. If you and your SO still love it after that, then stick with it! Some children love when they have unique names whilst some kids with super common names tend to dislike their names.

I like it. It’s not too out there, easy to pronounce, and unique. I have a REALLY weird name, so much that I legit changed my name when I was in college. I hated it growing up, mostly because it was hard to pronounce and it’s a foreign name so people were always asking “where are you from?” (Wtf) it was super annoying
BUT having a unique name is useful for stuff like job applications because it’s memorable. People don’t forget you. When I changed my name I made sure to still pick something slightly unusual because nobody remembers Chris or Jen more than anyone else. 
So I think Sylvan is great.

I love it! I am one of those people who prefers unique names...I’m using Dax for a boy and if by a miracle it’s a girl Tilly. Both of those names aren’t common at all 🥰
