There are 40 strains of HPV that is sexually transmitted. 
The vaccine only covers a few strains.
Many women in my HPV support groups have HPV and they were vaccinated.

Yes because it only protects you against certain strains. Not every strain.

Yeeeeep. Happened to me - but thankfully it went away within a year.

I did. 
Got vaccinated. 
Then I had an abnormal pap a couple years later. Showed i had HPV and CIN 1. So then they did a colonoscopy and that showed CIN II. By the time I had LEEP I had CIN III which is severe dysplasia. All within a matter of months. Luckily the LEEP removed it all and I’ve had clean paps ever since and HPV is now negative. 
I still recommend the vaccine though since it protects against common strands.
