Surgery on my 11 month old

Beth

I noticed a lump in my son's abdomen when he was probably 5 or 6 months old. It was about the size of a nickel if not smaller. It didn't seem to bother my son nor did it seem to ever grow. He had an ultrasound and we didn't really get any clarification as to what it was. He met with an amazing surgeon who felt it was necessary to go in and remove it to get answers. He also needed to have a circumcision so we had that done at the same time. We were unable to have it done when he was born for several reasons and then every time we tried to set it up, we kept being told he had to wait till he was a year old...anywayssss, 2 weeks ago he had the surgery at just under 11 months old. Yesterday we had his follow up and found out that at first glance the lump mimicked something cancerous but it was sent to Boston and was said to be nothing. Phew! Apparently it's often that they see something like that, but it's nothing and it won't grow back. He recovered quite well and is all healed for the most part. It was a scary stressful time, especially that hour and a half he was under. I wasn't able to go in with him, they just walked away with him and I lost it! But after all of that I'm just so thankful everything turned out fine and that we had an incredible surgeon who took great care of my baby!
