Nipple soreness

My baby is 3 weeks old. Pediatrician says he has a slight tongue tie that we decided not to clip right away because it sounds painful. He can stick his tongue out past his gumline but its just not very far. I feel like I get a more than decent latch with him but my nipples are still sore. Not 24/7, only when he initially latches, its like a stinging feeling, then once he's on and eating its only a slight bearable pain. Sometimes barely any pain at all. Just wondering if the initial stinging pain when he first latches on goes away and when? Thinking that we should go ahead and see an ENT about his tongue tie and see if that helps? I was using a shield but it was a pain in my tush keeping that thing attached to me. So I ditched it and haven't used it in about a week.
