Are you going to do baby led weaning?

Question

I’m curious to see who might be trying baby led weaning once their LO’s are old enough for solids! (Obviously that’s whenever you and your pediatrician decide 😉). I really want to try it, but the choking hazard makes me nervous, and my LO is in daycare, so I don’t even know if they’ll be comfortable with it. I might end up doing a combination of traditional baby food plus baby led weaning. Let me know your thoughts! 🤗

It’s amazing to me how some moms can come on here and be so rude to other moms who just want to do what’s best for their baby. There is absolutely nothing wrong with starting with purées and there’s nothing wrong with BLW. You’re not going to mess up your baby by giving them purées 🙄. I’m a Peds nurse and personally I’ll be introducing purées to my baby at 6 months and then slowly let her try solids. It’s all personal preference!!

My friend is a speech therapist and said that purées whole frowned upon by hard core BLW followers are still good for oral developmental reasons. So I’m planning to do a combo of both puréed food and pieces of food.

MyMIL worked in a daycare for 20+ years in the infant room (just quit less than a year ago). By no means am I saying she is an expert (hell, I don’t even agree with some stuff that she says in regards to my daughter). She suggested to me introducing oatmeal first at 6 months or whenever she is showing interest. Then start mixing veggies then fruits (she said you have to do veggies first because if you do fruits first then they won’t want the veggies) in the oatmeal. She said a lot of moms at the daycare would skip oatmeal but it’s really good to start out with. Just sharing some insight for you to consider.

I was fed purées first. I’m a food blogger, not a picky eater. Goodness people! Let them play with the spoon and try themselves. I mean saying they can’t learn anything or increase their taste palette is absurd. It depends how you do it! I don’t drink the same smoothie everyday! Switch it up. Make pouches on the go. Try mashed food too. It doesn’t have to be all one way or all another. Not sure when poor moms started feeling so much pressure. I’m excited to do all of it!

This is my third and I’ve loved the ease of BLW. I’ve made some purées as pouches for on the go too. But I just like the ease of BLW. 
I am waiting until she sits unassisted though.

I fed my first baby purees and then slowly introduced thicker foods/pieces.  Also he was formula fed and IS NOT a picky eater.  He eats a huge variety of foods and he is 3 years old!  Breastfeeding and doing BLW has nothing to do with it.  My sister breastfed all 3 of her girls and they are all the pickiest eaters.  Depends on the baby.  :) I will be starting with purees again with my second.

You can’t do BLW until your baby is 6 mo and sitting up unassisted and they’ve lost their oral thrust. And your not supposed to also do purées because there no developmental advantage to feeding baby purées. And why would you want to anyway do you blend up uncooked unseasoned food and spoon feed it to yourself? 😖
