Newborn and pacifiers

My daughter is 3 days old. Breastfeed and bottle fed with only breastmilk. She was killing me with constantly being on the breast as comfort like I was her pacifier. I was getting no sleep so I decided to give her a pacifier for comfort aswell. She still latches on my breast maybe not the best but she's still able to eat and unlatch when she's done. Ive noticed that when she unlatches she snaps out so I usually try to put her on so I'm assuming she's either hungry or for comfort. How do I tell when she is hungry verses when she wants comfort...? I'm assuming she's hungry when she refuses the pacifier completely but I notice sometimes she doesn't want either and just wants to scream and cry (unlatching from breast and spitting out pacifier)

That seems like cluster feeding. Nursing sessions can last for 45 minutes so I can see how you would feel like a pacifier. But it’s important that babies who are only days old be fed when they are asking for it so your milk supply gets established

Has your milk come in? You can hear them swallow when they are actually eating. Their sucks are also longer and deeper.

I know she's only 3 days old, but have you noticed any patterns from when she does eat? My daughter will have her mouth open and move her head around (as if searching for nipple) when she wants to eat and has a different cry/noise but if she just wants to nurse for comfort she will actually cry. I've also heard to look at their hands while feeding, if clenched in fists they are hungry and if open/relaxed they are full

If she refuses both and seems to just want to cry, maybe just try holding her and rocking/bouncing for a minute. Sometimes when mine is being fussy if you lightly blow on her face she calm down and seems to forget what she was crying about

My son is 3 weeks now and it took me until until just couple days ago to realize the difference. With him, I tickle his lip with my finger. If hes hungry he'll open his mouth WIDDEE open and his feet will stretch out like hes trying to curl up around my arm. For a pacifier he will barely open his mouth and kind of flop towards my arm. Hope that helps
