Painting the crib, any suggestion for paint?

Hello everyone, I’m thinking to paint my baby’s crib grey. I have done some research on what what kind of paint I should use but so far I’ve only found acrylic paint and chalk paint. Any other suggestion ? And do I have to sand it first before painting ?

Use Annie Sloan chalk paint I’ve done hundreds of pieces of furniture with it it’s fab! You won’t need to sand if you use the shellac primer then wax it to seal the paint xx

I used valspar simplicity u can use a sanding block to even surface I personally did not but it zero VOCs. And odor

I used chalk paint, no sanding or priming needed. Prior to painting it the color looked similar to the crib photo you posted. I sanded it afterwards to give it a rustic look.

Just an update! I went to the store and I got the chalked paint, fortunately that was available and hubby and I started to paint, this is one the first coat we will do second possibly but it does look amazing I’m so impressed. I will post pictures once they are done. I’m also planning on painting the dresser which I’m using as changing area the same colour. Thank you everyone for your help and support 😁😁

If it is varnished then you definitely need to sand it down for even coverage. 
It's always best to sand it right down if you are painting it and apply a primer so the paint goes on evenly and you don't see any dark bits if the paint happens to chip. 
You can buy special wood paint. I personally use Annie Sloan chalk paint after I have sanded the wood down and primed it. I've used Parisian Grey and that's quite nice! I think that's what it was called anyways! 
If you choose to use chalk paint, make sure you use a clear varnish afterwards if you want durability or wax.
