Anxiety attacks in pre teens- teens?

Question

Has anyone dealt with a pre teen or teen that gets anxiety attacks? If so, how did you handle it? My step daughter has it but her parents don’t want to use any medication I def agree with that.

therapy but if she’s having one here are steps to calm down:
deep breaths and have her name 5 things she can see, 4 things she can touch/feel, 3 things she can hear, 2 things she can smell and 1 thing she can taste. 
this helps people get control of their groundings when they feel like things are out of control.

I suggest she talk talk to a counselor, they can help her identify the causes and give her ways to deal with her emotions. I know a good friend that has taken her 10 year-old to the a counselor for the same and it has helped her a lot.
I would be very, very, very, reluctant to prescribe medication to a child that young. Drugs intended for mental health disorders have not been tested thoroughly on minors. Also, their brains are not fully developed and the effects of the drugs on their brains could be different. Many anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds can further exacerbate the underlying issue in children.

Both me and my younger sister have anxiety/ get panic attacks. My mom also had it when she was younger as well so she knows what it’s like so it is easier for her to help us calm down. Some things NOT to do is tell her “to just relax” or it’s all in her head. While it basically is in our head, it doesn’t help hearing that. 
Try making conversation when she gets an anxiety attack, help get her mind off of it and talk about something else. (This is what helps me the most) 
If she needs a hug, hug her.
Tell her you are here to help her through it.
Also maybe look into CBD . It’s all natural. We take Charlottes Web CBD oil (for anxiety, and for my scoliosis)

She needs to see a therapist to get to the root of the cause and to learn how to cope.
Mental illness is a sickness as much as cancer if it came down to her needing meds to control it and be happy it would be neglect not to do so.
