Getting re-engaged?
My partner and I were engaged two years ago, I broke it off because we were both not ready and I had a lot of problems to work through. Mainly substance abuse problems and PTSD, and I've now been clean a year and sober for seven months. I'm also four days into quitting cigarettes now too! And they've been working on their problems with a counselor over the last year and a half as well.
We've been back together for a while and trying to have a baby and we're starting a farm, it makes legal sense to get married and I do feel like I'm ready now, but I'm not sure how to socially navigate the 'oh yeah we weren't getting married but now we are again! Be happy for us!' Or even how to bring it up with them, because I definitely don't want it to be a surprise re-proposal, but I still want it to feel special.
We're 25 and 24 and would be paying for the whole wedding ourselves so people's disapproval doesn't actually affect our situation much, but I really don't like it and don't want my partner to have unnecessary stress from their family. (My family already doesn't like me)
How do you ask someone to marry you a second time and still have it feel special and avoid family drama?
