Frequent Formula Feeding
How often and how much are your formula fed babies eating? My little guy is almost 3 weeks and typically can’t go more than two hours, and sometimes an hour and 45 minutes, between feedings. Maybe once or twice a day, he will go 2.5 hours between, or very rarely 3. He is not a good sleeper which I think is part of the problem. He typically takes 3-4 oz each time, although during the night usually 2-2.5 oz. I am worried about overfeeding him as his pediatrician said he should not be eating more than 32 oz in a 24-hour period. By feeding on demand, we are often maxing out this limit or even giving him slightly more. We do try all kinds of things - paci, 5 S’s, change diaper, etc - before feeding to determine if he’s actually hungry first or if something else is bothering him. How can I get him to go longer between feedings? Or should I not even bother and just keep feeding on demand?
I should mention, I don’t think this is a growth spurt as I’m pretty sure he just went through one a couple days last week when he was eating almost every 90 minutes and a total of up to 40 oz per day!
