Is it rude? (Read description)

So my mom is throwing a baby shower for my sister, she’s having it at a popular pizza restaurant in town and it’s pretty expensive about 16$ for a cheese pizza. Anyways our family and friends equals to about 30 guests, where baby daddy’s side is only bringing 10 people. My mom offered to throw this knowing it’ll be around 500-600$ for everything. But she was asking my sister if baby daddy’s mom can help pitch in.... they aren’t married, they’ve only known Eachother for literally 2 weeks before she got pregnant. So it’s not like the mom And my sister are extremely close or anything. I said i think it’s rude to throw a party then invite them and ask them to pitch in money , especially because she’s only bringing 10 people. Do you think it’s rude??

If you already planned it and invited people it’s now YOUR event. You can’t ask others to help pay for it now. If you needed money to do it then the other party should have been approached “hey, let’s throw a baby shower together”.

I disagree with the other comments. I think it’s rude to assume someone can afford to pitch in when you’ve personally volunteered to throw the party at a place she knows is expensive. If she volunteered to throw it- she is responsible to the expense. Had she asked for financial help with the shower before deciding on a location, that would be a different story because then the Grandmothers-to-be could decide what they could afford together in an appropriate manner.

While they should offer to pitch in - it’s rude to invite people and expect them to pay. If you’re hosting the party it’s your responsibility to pay for it

Yes it’s rude...the other woman had no say in the location or planning of this shower, your mother volunteered and chose the location herself knowing how much it would cost. If she wanted help with the cost she could have approached the other woman and asked if she wanted to be involved and throw it together. But instead what it looks like is your mom wanted the credit for throwing the shower herself and now wants to quietly get money from the other family to pay for a shower she volunteered to throw.
