Little debate how is it said?

I always hear people say they buy stuff online, then one day my BIL says “I don’t buy stuff online I buy them offline” which didn’t sound right to me mostly because I have always said online.
We had a little thing going so I wanted to see how most people say it.

Well he has to be "online" and connected to the internet in order to purchase anything, unless he's going into a store. 🤔 Sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about

I think people who say offline are thinking of “off of online” and just smoosh it to offline. But properly spoken, it’s online.

Online. It’s the only one that makes sense. 
I could see “off Amazon” or “off the Internet” but offline doesn’t work because that means not connected to the Internet.

Online is on the internet. Offline is not and from a physical store.

On-line is buying from an online retailer.

I wanna say he means it as he buys “offline” as i  he goes into the store to get whatever it is he needs. And online meaning he goes shopping at online retailers🤷🏼‍♀️

Like another comment says, usually “online” means connected to the internet, so I would interpret shopping offline as physically going to the store and shopping.

It should be online, but I always say I bought it offline....why I say it that way I have no damn clue.
