Punishment and rewarding children for good grades?

Punishment and rewarding children for good grades? Is it right or wrong? 
My question is what are your feelings about punishing and rewarding children based on their grades (not based on their behavior). Is it right and good parenting or wrong and shaming the child who does not get good grades. 
For example Susie and Jane are sisters Susie gets straight As and is academically successful at school. Jane is struggling and is on the low side academically and does not get good grades. Every report card Susie gets rewarded for her good grades, Jane on the other hand gets grounded for her bad grades.

This is how my parents (mostly my dad) did it and how I plan to do it as well - it doesn’t matter what letter grade you get, as long as you studied your hardest and did your best. If you didn’t try your hardest, then you got punished such as grounding, losing privileges, etc. It encouraged us to strive for OUR best, not THE best.

Well let’s think of when these two will be adults - one will be getting raises and promotions and the other demotions and possible firing. In general unless there is a learning disability, those who study and work hard get good grades and those who don’t get bad grades. So imo in order to set these kids up for how the world works - which is rewarding hard and smart work - they need to be punished/rewarded.

Instead of punishing the child with low grades we should be giving them help and more attention. Clearly they are struggling and punishing them wouldn't motivate them to get better grades. We need to take extra time during homework to explain it to them and help where its needed.

I had over a 4.0 my entire education and never got anything for it, while friend would get $50/A. Honestly bribing for good grades doesn't create good results.
They should be working hard because life is hard and they might as well learn it early.
Punishing for bad grades is only fair if they are mentally capable of much better but just lazy.

No I will neither reward or discourage a child based on their grades.  It depends on their efforts. Is suzie makes a B but doesn't put any effort in she would get in trouble more than if Jane worked her absolute hardest and made a C

I got 10 bucks an A. It motivated me to learn and do well in school. If one child is struggling they shouldnt be punished but helped and motivated.

I think it’s always good to focus on the positive. So praising your child because they have good grade is good.
But for the child that is not doing so good.. is it because it’s harder for them? I think about my husband that has dyslexia. Wouldn’t be fair to punish a child because of something they can’t control. 
On the other hand, if they are older and don’t put in the effort, i would take away some privelege but not punish.

This is how my mom did that with my sister and me. My sister excelled in school and I wasn't so great. Our personalities and approaches to life are SO different so I'm not sure it was entirely fair, I feel like I could have benefited from extra help. She got to go out and do whatever she wanted while I had to stay home and live a more sheltered life, which caused me to rebel a bit. With that said, as an adult, I don't resent my mom or my sister for, and I celebrate my sister's successes because she truly deserves it for all the hard work she put in. My mom has repeatedly told me that she made mistakes while raising us but won't be specific on what it was so she has her own battles she's fighting within herself. She's a great mom and grandma so I honestly love her to pieces.

I’m a teacher and set high goals for myself as a student. As a mother I had to remind myself that everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. My son is extremely intelligent in Math but struggles in spelling. He gets all As in all subjects EXCEPT Spelling and Math. The difference is that we study and study for Spelling and he still does his best. In Math he seems to think he is a know it all and slacks off, causing him to have a lower grade. A C in Spelling for him is acceptable, it is not acceptable in Math. I do not punish him necessarily, like grounding or anything. I just explain to him that if he can’t manage his time wisely for Math and do his best the first time, I will dedicate specific amounts of time each day for it to be done. He learns it is better to work smarter not harder.

Personally all depends if the child with the bad grades is struggling with school and getting bad grades and all she needs is help to get them up then no you shouldnt punish them but if there skip class or cutting school not doing homework and acting up and thats why they have low grades yes punish them and i think u should reward for good grades when they have had low grades and lefted them up but not if there always getting good grades should just be proud of them and tell them. Can reward with there first honor roll and high honors.
