Did I mess up?

So I took my patch off yesterday because of a bad reaction but I had sex that night. I figured it was ok since I’d be getting a period from removing the patch. Today I saw my doctor and she said to take my old birth control pills for the meantime. So did I mess up by having sex last night? Because now I won’t get a period.
