Cleaning make up brushes??

Question

What do you use to clean them with? And how do you do it? I've only cleaned mine once and last time they seemed to be ruined after I washed them. They weren't soft or like they were before. Did I do something wrong? Help

I would probably use a cleaner specifically for brushes if you want to ensure the life of them after cleansing. I know a lot of the good brush cleaners I’ve seen are on the pricey side and I wouldn’t be willing to pay that because I barely wash my brushes anyways, but you could always try a “softer” soap like maybe dove or I think I ever heard baby soap like Johnson and Johnson is good for cleaning makeup brushes.

Dawn antibacterial soap. Yeah I know it’s dish soap but it’s also designed to be gentle. It will break down all the make up in your brushes and also disinfect them. 👈🏼 Which is super important when it comes to breakouts. Brushes don’t break you out but ones that are super dirty and have bacteria on them (from your face and just from sitting with product on them) for sure will. It makes it easy to clean your brushes and you don’t have to scrub and scrub and scrub which damages your brushes. 
All you need to do is get warm water, nothing boiling hot because you don’t want to melt or loosen the glue that holds the bristles in. Take a little bit of soap and gently agitate in your hand (like across your fingers) to work the soap gently through the bristles. The rinse them completely, gently squeeze any excess water out and lay flat on a towel or paper towels to dry. 
Honestly I have found that this works the best. As a makeup artist, I have tried a million soaps to clean my brushes. This works the best. You really don’t need super expensive soaps to make sure your brushes are clean and stay nice.

When I first started washing my brushes I also damaged them the best thing I can recommend is to either gently rub them on your hand or going by those silicone mats with all the bumps and ridges on them and gently rub them on that with a very soft face wash or you can buy a brush cleaner, I use ecotools brush cleaner and a silicone mat that I both found at Walmart and they work amazing when you're done just make sure you hang the brushes upside down so that the water drips out of them and not back into the brush

I use shampoo and use conditioner after. I know there are some products that are meant for your brushes maybe try that. I’ve been using shampoo and conditioner for a while and my brushes are still soft.
