IVF, is it safe to get hopes up?

TTC for 3yrs and we are starting IVF this cycle. We are cautiously optimistic. I have an aunt that failed IVF. The ups and downs of this whole infertility process have been hard. I’m afraid to get my hopes up too high and start pinning about babies etc. Just wondering what others do in this situation? Do you paint a spare room yet, start planning things, or wait until a BFP? I don’t want to get crushed, but I also wanting to believe it’s going to work. We can’t implant until October bc of clinic and chromosome testing. Baby dust to everyone and Thank you for support 💕✨💕❤️

Ivf is tough. Emotional and physically. You’ll hear so many stories about women having a positive outcome the first time while some of us have to go through multiple cycles to get that positive. I started my journey in 2016 and after 6-7 embryos and 4 transfers (I don’t remember if my second transfer was one or two embies ) we finally got pregnant with a singleton. 
My advice for you is remain positive and know that sometimes it takes time to get that BFP. I wouldn’t start painting or setting up a nursery until you get out of the first trimester but that’s just my opinion. Talk to your spouse a lot because you’re going to need that support and find yourself some support groups. As much as we want our spouses to understand it’s not always the same as it is coming from someone who has been there or going through it.

Did your doctor give you stats of how likely it is to work? My doc said my personal chances are about 40-50% for the first transfer. My friend did Ivf and her chances were 75% (and she got pregnant first time). Do you know how many embryos you have? I would be optimistic, but I personally would not make plans for a baby until I see a heartbeat on that ultrasound.

Hey! Same boat! Starting ivf this cycle. I only personally know 1 person who did ivf and she was successful (failed fresh transfer, successful first frozen transfer). My cousins sister in law did it too, 1 baby and currently pregnant with twins ( they will be 22 months apart lol). Since I only have positive first hand stories, you’d think I’d be optimistic but after almost 3 yrs ttc it’s really hard to imagine.

Ivf is extremely difficult but has good success rates. Of course those vary depending on the fertility issue and obviously there is no guarantee. That being said, I think its ok to be cautiously optimistic. I also think attitude plays a part in success. For me it was a delicate balance of staying optimistic but also not getting my hopes too high in case it didn't work or God forbid I had another MC. I've known of 2 other woman in addition to myself who have all gone through IVF, we all had different issues. They each had a little boy and today I am 15w with a little girl. I was given some baby stuff by a coworker who was cleaning out her house to sell, before I even got pregnant. But only now am I starting to get a nursery ready.
