Obsessed with schedules and routines?

Question

Just wondered why everyone seems to be obsessed with getting their babies into a routine?! Even when they sleep fine at night? 
Surely then you can't leave the house because little Jimmy has his nap at that time...

I say if you don’t want a routine then don’t have one, but don’t knock people who prioritize one and certainly don’t go hiding behind a forum to ask about it in such a condescending way. 
People have their reasons. Mine are I feel my kids thrive on order, and with certain routines it makes the already difficult journey that is parenting a little easier.

I think a bit of scheduling is needed, babies like order and routine, but also I think expecting a proper routine too young is like hitting your head against a brick wall. 
Also I think you have to be able to waver from the schedule occasionally or it’s just boring for everyone involved. 
I think with toddlers having a routine helps manage their behaviour as much as possible

I’m not obsessed with routine but my baby has a schedule. I’m very flexible with it, but the reason why I chose to do this is so I can have a life! It’s great to know when my daughter will likely be hungry or tired so I can plan my days around it and actually get things done. I was tired of planning to meet friends and then arriving an hour late for example, or getting to the pediatrician’s office with a starving/cranky baby. As the other poster commented, routine is good for babies and it reassures them. I am however super flexible with it. To each their own, if you don’t want to put your baby on a schedule then great, you can get your cues from him. Other moms will do what works best for them. I don’t think it’s a huge deal either way, and don’t really get why it bothers you so much 🤷🏻‍♀️

What does it matter? Everyone does parenting their own way. There's no need to be curious about other people's routines/schedules. Personally I think routine is good and I'm trying to get my baby into a better routine, and don't feel I need to explain my reasons why. I've done it this way with all my children and let's just say, they know when bedtime is etc. I've never had to deal with a toddler deciding their own bedtime due to lack of routine 🤷‍♀️ saying people are 'obsessed' is a bit much, there's nothing wrong with wanting to be organised and knowing which way you choose to parent.

if you you would have experience with a very cranky no sleep baby (because every baby is different) you would know why routine is needed. Some children just have a very short window before being overtired and they go from zero to hundred and you just cant get them to sleep. In these cases routine is incredible important because they learn they are going to sleep at that specific hour and sleep better and longer after getting on a routine. And mom gets a life again! 😁

We love having a routine! It helps hubby and I plan things for the day. Sometimes LO gets off his schedule and it’s no big deal, but he naturally gets himself back on schedule. 
Life is hectic as a first time mom, it’s nice to have some constants to help me not be completely overwhelmed.

my son kind of made his own schedule lol but I'm not super strict on following it. the only thing that has to start around 7:30 is his nighttime routine because we are asleep by 9. he falls asleep around 8:30. but leaving the house in general is a chore with an infant so we just stay home a lot lol

Just a different parenting style.  Everyone’s just trying to survive and sometimes a really ‘rigid’ routine is better suited for the family then a more flexible one.  Personally we are pretty laid back and don’t live our day by the clock by any means, but our 4 month old absolutely has his own natural schedule and we have a routine for certain set points of the day.  But if we have a day that our routine/schedule doesn’t happen it’s absolutely not the end of the world.
