Why do doctors act like GBS is no big deal !?

Question

I tested positive for GBS and my dr made it seem like it wasnt a big deal at all and I’m currently researching it and just found it can cause stillbirth or the baby can get sick and die. Why the hell do they brush this off like its nothing !? Shouldn’t they do an induction to ensure you get the medication for 4 hours before giving birth!? Because if your water breaks on its own they’re immediately exposed

My guess is because it’s dirt common. 1/4 of women have it at any one time and although it can cause terrible side effects, those are very rare. Every obgyn in the country probably sees a dozen women or more a week with gbs. I had it with my first and was induced, but that was because I’m highly allergic to all cillins. The alternate antibiotic takes 12 hours to work, so while most women take at least four hours to labor and deliver, many do not take 12 (including me). I received clinamyacin instead overnight and then was induced the next morning.

I think because the risk is so extremely small and GBS is so common that inducing everyone with it probably isn't practical. Plus induction leads to higher levels of intervention being needed so you are opening yourself up to other issues I guess.

I had it with my first pregnancy...I ended up being induced at 38 weeks but only because I had high blood pressure. Otherwise I would have carried until I went into labor and just had antibiotics then. They hooked me up to antibiotics when they started my induction and everything was fine. It really isn’t that big of a deal and googling everything will just drive your bonkers and make you scared of every little thing during pregnancy.

It's because it really isn't that big of a deal. As long as you get your penicillin you will be fine!!! I had it with my first and he came out perfect!!! It's only a real concern if you don't get the penicillin and the four hours is just a buffer to make sure you get it in your systems I'm sure it doesn't take that long. Also it's not very good to research things as they make you worry more then necessary unless your researching on legitimate websites!!!! You will be okay if you have it!!

Because it’s a common thing to see in pregnancy. You’ll get treated with antibiotics when you’re in labor. Just make sure you are going to the hospital and not waiting for hours when your water breaks.

My doctor said 30-40% of women have GBS. Inducing that many women for something that is so common and so easily treated (antibiotics during labor) would cause way more risk to both mom and baby.

The risk is small and it’s so common cuz they treat it regularly. 
Researching something on ur own like that makes u nutty and question a lot, I get it. But they know what they’re doing (most of them)

It’s incredibly rare for it to cause the things you’re reading. I had it with my first pregnancy and everything went great. My water broke and I got my antibiotics and baby was perfect and healthy. They take the precaution of antibiotics just in case. Even if you couldn’t get to the doctor in time for antibiotics it doesn’t mean your baby won’t be ok.
