I know the recommendation is 6 months to a year but what are your plans for when to move baby?

I'm trying my 4 month old in his cot for the first time overnight, it's in a different room but it adjoins to ours and when the door is open I can see him from where I sleep, is this classed as own room or still in the same room as it's literally 6 steps away from me

He's too big for his bassinet now and wakes himself up hitting the sides so for both our sakes I need to move him to his cot, just a little worried as I wanted him next to me until he was 6 months but that's just not going to be possible now
