Does anyone else take a 21 day BC?

My birth control is only 21 days without the “sugar” pills. I’m confused at how to take them. After this pack do I admittedly start on the next pack? or do I wait for my period, then after my period I start the next pack? Will i have to wait a week to have sex once i start the new packet? Or waiting for my period to come? (I remember people saying it takes a week for the BC to get into your system.) Some people are saying one thing, and others are saying another. I’m very confused!!

I’m going to talk to my doctor to switch to a different pack with sugar pills. But for now I have 3 days till I’m done with this packet. I don’t want to get pregnant by waiting days for my period with nothing in my system, and then having to restart each month with waiting a week till it’s in my system again.
