How do you use the thermometer to temp? How often and when do you start to use it??

I started temping as soon as I received mine even the I was in the middle of a cycle. It does take a few cycles to be able to read it besides ovulation. But if I didnt temp I wouldnt know that I ovulate on the later side of the spectrum after positive OPK. Almost a full 2 days after my first positive. And an OPK can only 'predict' where bbt confirms ovulation. I always kept it in my pillow case bc it is very important to take it at the same time every morning before moving a muscle.

I would suggest reading the book "Taking charge of your fertility"
You need a special digital thermometer that measures to 2 decimal places instead of one.
You take your temperature once per day first thing in the morning, before you get out of bed and with at least 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep. It works best if you take it the same time every day.
You record the temperature on a chart (either electronically in an app like Glow or Fertility Friend, or manually on paper). Some basal thermometers can sync with an app automatically so you dont have to enter the temperature manually.
After you ovulate, you should notice a rise in your basal body temperature and these higher temps are sustained until your next period. If your temps stay high for 18 days after your ovulation day, you are most likely pregnant.
You cannot use temps to determine when you will ovulate however after charting them for several months, you will have a better idea of your cycle pattern and can predict it more easily.
Temps can tell you if you are not ovulating, have a short luteal phase, or point to the possibility of low progesterone or thyroid issues (blood tests would be required to confirm this). 
To determine ovulation from temps you will be looking for a rise in temperature for 3 or more days that are at least 0.2 F above the previous 6 temps. Some variation can occur but the overall pattern should be low before o and high after it.

You need a basal body thermometer, a special, large-scale, easy-to-read thermometer that registers only from 96 to 100 degrees. Most women register 96 to 98 degrees before ovulation and 97 to 99 degrees after ovulation. So your body temperature slightly goes down before an egg is released. Then about 24 hours after the egg is released, your temperature will go up for a number of days. 1) Take your temperature at the same time every morning 2) Take your temperature as soon as you wake up, after a solid sleep (at least 4 hours), before you even move around. And I would say to start using it once your fertile week begins.

As far as I understand it, it really only becomes useful after a cycle or two of data. Use your thermometer (it must be a BBT thermometer so that it gets specific enough) every morning before you get out of bed at the same time. I got one that is Bluetooth and has its own alarm so it reminds me called fermometer. After you get enough data it will help you know when you’ve ovulated and, if your temps stay high after ovulation, sometimes can indicate pregnancy.
