Should we get the puppy?

Question

So I've always wanted a corgi, but I would never feel comfortable spending over 1,000 for a dog...now that dosent mean I wouldn't spend a 1000 on a dog for vet bills if needed...but I just cant bring myself to buy a dog for that much. So my husband and I have been looking at other breeds. We agreed 600 was our max. 
Well someone locally still has corgis for sale, but they are now 20 wks old and he offered them at 600. Which is now at our price point. My concerns are 
A Why are these puppies still available? There must be something wrong with them. 
B Is 20 weeks to old to successfully train a puppy? 
C We missed a lot of the "cute puppy phase" 
Should we go for it or hold off and get a younger pup?

I'd rather adopt than by from a breeder (backyard or registered). Obviously the choice is yours but you could try first checking your local shelters.

20 weeks is still pretty young, and they'll be able to learn new things no problem! The breeder probably just had a hard time selling all the puppies, amd have lowered the price to try and get rid of them. If you're worried about behavior or anything though, ask the person selling them about the situation. A responsible breeder will be honest about the dogs history. They should also allow you to meet the puppies, so you can see for yourself what the personalities are like. I say go for it :) 
Also, where they are a little bit older, they may already be at least partially potty trained, which is a huge plus in my opinion.

In my experience, at $600 you are not buying from a responsible breeder. All in, our responsibly bred Labaradoodle (from a line with other service dogs) was $3k. And he’s the exact personality we expected and very very good at his job!

Personally I would rather adopt a dog but I do understand why someone would want a particular breed. We adopted a pure bred mastiff that was 9 months old from the pound. He was free. His owners spent 3,000$ dollars on him. I couldn’t imagine spending that much. But he is the best dog we’ve ever had and I think I’m gonna have to stick with that breed from now on. however there are “pure bred rescue centers.” They often sell dogs that were surrendered to pounds or shelters for much less than breeders. You may not be able to have paper proving the breed or it may not be a PURE pure bred but you can get pretty close for significantly cheaper. 
As for the puppy thing, I’m actually very happy we got an older dog. He was still young enough to have the puppy like energy and he’s grown a little since we got him (100lbs-190lbs)Someone else took care of the training for us and since he’s a large breed he would have eaten even more than the 8 cups a day he’s eating now at 2 years old. It saved us even more money in that regard. We will definitely be using a pure bred rescue in the future.

Visit your local shelter there are many dogs looking for a second chance at a home❤️❤️  and might even change your mind.

One more thing - if you look at out of state rescues, you may have better luck being found a “fit home.” Here in Los Angeles, rescues ask for some fenced in outdoor space. I personally know people who’ve adopted from TX and GA where the standards are far fewer and they’re really looking to do high volume because so many are in kill shelters.

Get the older puppies! The younger ones will get snatched up right away... the older dogs deserve a loving home too :(

There getting older. So usually the start lowering the price. They like to get rid of puppies around 8 to 10 weeks.
