Help please!!!!

Okay so I'm 38+4 with induction scheduled on the 22nd! Had my first cervical check yesterday doctor said 1 cm and still "pretty firm" and can feel her head. So question for other moms because I dont know. She never gave me a number for effacement. If she can feel her head am I effacing? I havent "dropped". Can you have a firm cervix and still be effacing? I'm a FTM and terrified of a c section. I want to avoid completely. I've been reading 50/50 stories on women who go in for induction at 1 cm with no effacement. Some great experiences with short and long labors. And some that ended in c sections so I'm basically having a panic attack. Any good stories similar to me would be appreciated! I'm getting a ball today to start bouncing on. And I've been having sex, epo, and walking, so a little discouraged but will keep trying for more before this induction!
