Herpes/Cold sores question

So my bf had a big bump on the corner of his mouth, but on the inside a for about 3 days. It seemed to randomly pop up and was really painful. I couldnt see it well myself, but to me looked like it maybe had a white head. My bf was able to further inspect and said it looks more like a chunk if skin was bitten off. It hurt when he ate spicy/citrusy foods and not really besides that, unless he hit it or bit it of course. Is this possible cold sore/herpes? I have a small bump now on my bottom lip on the inside, barely even hurts, but seems to have a tiny white head as well. Super small but now im worrying he gave me something. He was tested for STDs a few months back everything was negative, but idk which type of herpes they test for, if any cause i know theres two types. Thanks!
