Should modelling agencies carry out health checks?

This is an old debate I have come across where a former model is/was campaigning to pass a law requiring modelling agencies to carry out health checks. 
The law will apply to every model, not just those who appear to be over and underweight, and will include mental health screening as well as BMI checks.

I think grown ups are allowed to make their own choices and if they want to get skinny for their job and be unhealthy that their choice.

Maybe a bit controversial, but I don't think they should. 
It sets a president for other employers to do carry out invasive checks, because where do you draw the line? 
Sure employers should try and assist their employees to keep healthy, but ultimately this is in the hands of the individual.

I think that people saying no probably never worked in the arts/ fashion industry. It’s not like any other job people put their lives at risk to book jobs. So while I agree that it’s invasive I think that many artists and designers don’t want to enable unhealthy and potentially fatal behavior and I believe this could solve the issue.

When i started with Elite at 13 Nikki Taylor had passed about 3 months after and I had met her 2x in passing and ironically I prolly shouldn't speak of it but fuck it We were encouraged to get Albuterol inhalers and to drink 3 full glasses of water before any kind of a meal to fill before we took in nutrition My father so blinded made sure I did all these things then Nikki was found dead .... Why becuz her heart quit from all malnutrition and the over use of albuterol and possibly a under lying heart condition but ultimately It was becuz the albuterol My mother pulled me out made my father pay the contract back and that was it for me 
What happens to these models no one will ever know until they go thro it I duno how it is mow a days I know pushing to be 90lbs isnt pushed as it was in the 90s 
So I pray they do something more for these sweet girls

I think so. It's similar to professional sports which I think require health checks. 
I doubt modeling agencies care if the models have eating disorders or other issues as long as they look a certain way though.

If the agencies want to, I guess they can. But a law requiring it is excessive.

I don't think they should. That would give me anxiety if I was going to become a model. There is a big discrepancy on what is considered healthy.

The agencies really don't care unfortunately, but there should certainly be resources in place for any profession to seek or access medical help whatever the need.

I don't think it should be mandatory unless every business is required to do it as well. Unless the clients is underage, mental health is up to the individual and in the end they are responsible for getting help for their issues.
