Potty training advice?

My son is increasingly showing interest in the potty and his diaper changes are more and more difficult. I’m due with our second when he’ll be 2.5 and I know they tend to regress with big changes like a new sibling so would you try potty training now and hope for the best or wait til we’re settled with new baby when he’s closer to 3 years old?

I think I would wait, esp w a boy. 🤷🏼‍♀️ we are dealing with the new baby (#2) growing pains (jealousy, regressions, etc) right now and totally failing with potty training. We still entertain her interest in the potty (sitting on it and talking about it) but aren’t doing a regimented training. We struggle just getting her to eat at the table some nights! 🤦🏼‍♀️ if you start potty training now you will likely get some regression when new baby arrives. But then again, your little guy could just be a rock star about it, train up easy and never go back to accidents and diapers! 🤗

My nephew was ready and interested in the potty at 2, he was doing very well going on the potty several times a day, then his grandma scared him with it and he regressed and want potty trained for a full year afterwards. I think if it's that easy for them to regress at this age it's not worth the pain, so I would just wait with it.

My son is interested in the potty and fascinated by me using it, but we are due with #2 in October and decided we won’t even worry about potty training until closer to 3 if we can.  We will be making a cross country move (most likely) when he is 2.5 so we wanted to wait until after all the big changes occur.

I’m just taking my kids lead he’ll be almost 2.5 when baby comes.  He’s been understanding and going on the potty for the last few months though and is just starting to tell me when he has to potty...  my first was potty trained and 3.5yrs when this one was born and he still went through regression, he’s 5.5yrs now and just starting to stay dry at night 😌

I think it all comes down to how you do it. I’m a Montessori teacher and we advocate potty training much earlier than most other schools of thought, but we don’t expect success immediately. So with my son we started talking to him about his body functions around 15 months and just encouraged him to sit on the potty every time we changed his diapers. Now he’s been in training underwear for several months and uses the potty frequently, but still has accidents and that’s ok. Not putting pressure on it and being ok with accidents goes a long way with potty training.
