18 week ultrasound?!?

They said I won’t be getting an ultrasound until 18 weeks... is that normal? I won’t see anything until I’m almost halfway done?!? That doesn’t make sense. I see so many people getting them at 6-8 weeks

Same! I haven’t met my OB yet till 12 weeks. I’ve only met the nurse to confirm the pregnancy by pee. And she said my ultrasound will be at 20 weeks. Ugghhh

It’s normal to have first ultrasound between 16-20 weeks. People who get as early as 6-8 weeks pay to get an ultrasound private. Unless you have a pregnancy that needs to be followed, then you CAN get early ultrasound through hospitals etc. But you don’t get it normally.

My insurance covers 3 unless there's an emergency. 
I had one at my first appointment, 6 weeks 5 days as a dating scan, my next is when I'm 12 weeks 2 days to check some structural development and markers for different diseases, followed by my final one around 20 weeks which is to check their anatomy to make sure they have developed properly.
I plan on paying out of pocket for one more out of pocket in the third trimester just for keepsake photos.

I usually have 3-5 ultrasounds per pregnancy. I have already had 2 and in 5 days getting my third, I will be 11 weeks.. and will have 1 more after that at 20 weeks. 
Then paying for 3ds at 30 weeks.

In Australia we get a dating scan, a 12 week DS screening ultrasound & a 20 week ultrasound. And I’m private so from 30 weeks they scan at every appointment !

They usually do a "date it" US before 12 weeks than another around 20 weeks to check for all the important things (brain development, heart, limbs, organs, fluids) that's when you typically find out gender. Unless there is an emergency, they don't do them often 😞
