Skip bassinet?

I’ve been looking into investing a bassinet that I can put next to the bed and I think I found one I liked. My husband came up with the idea of bringing the crib into the room so we can save money on buying a bassinet. I’ve explained the pros and cons of going straight to crib to him, but I want the group’s opinion. Did you go straight crib and skipped bassinet? Did baby sleep better in crib or did baby need the bassinet the first few weeks/months till they outgrew it?

Putting baby straight into the crib is perfectly fine and will avoid transitioning issues in the future. Baby needs to sleep in your room for the first 12 months regardless. We did use a bassinet but only for the first 3 months and alternated between that and the crib during that time.

We’re just doing a pack and play with the bassinet insert. Saves a lot of money, and the pack and play can be used for a whole lot longer than the bassinet can.

My mom had 3 of us and said she used the bed side sleeper for about 8 months with all of us. of course the length of time you use it is a personal decision, but for all the babies I’ve cared for, the parents and babies sleep better in a bassinet. You can always buy one second hand too to save some money then sell it again!

I found it super useful. My daughter is 4 months old and we still use the bassinet. It’s easy to move around the room, doesn’t take up a lot of space, you don’t break your back taking baby in and out and it’s comfier for little babies than bigger spaces. My daughter naps in her crib in her bedroom during the day, this is how I’m getting her used to the transition. I guess it really depends on what works best for your family. For me it was totally worth it

Our son was only in a bassinet at the hospital. Day 1 at home we were in the crib in his nursery. He *knock on wood* has no problem knowing it is bedtime after a rocking chair feeding and going down to sleep swaddled up. We are 7 weeks on Sunday.

I got a pack and play for my son. It comes with a bassinet piece. I tried putting him in the big part of the pack and play when he was first born and slept terrible so attached the bassinet piece instead for him and he slept much better in it . He’s 2 month now growing out of the bassinet part so I have him sleeping in the big part of the pack and play now and he is transitioning well so far 😊. I would def do some sort of bassinet or pack n play tho ..A crib is just too big and doesn’t seem very comforting for their tiny bodies in my opinion

We are doing the halo Bassinest for the first while. Really liked the design. I actually found one second hand on Varagesale (like kijiji) for super cheap that was basically in brand new condition. You could always try looking there to save some money :)

My friend gave me her bassinet or I never would have bought one. Usually only good til they are around 10-15 pounds. I love the cosleeper! It’s like a pack n play but smaller and the side can be adjusted so it’s level with your bed.

We used a halo bassinet for about 2 months max. We actually used the bassinet of the pack n play for the first 3 weeks (we were sleeping in the living room on an air mattress bc I couldn’t do stairs). When we moved back to our room on the 2nd floor the pack n play didn’t fit. So we used the bassinet at that point. I really liked the bassinet because you could see the baby and swivel it closer to the bed. If you buy the version that vibrates be aware the batteries run out quick. My LO was all over the place doing 180* when he slept so we transitioned out of it quickly. He was also very loud when he slept so we moved him to the other room in his crib because we could still hear him. If I had room in my bedroom to put the crib I would do that first. If that wasn’t an option I would use a pack n play. But if your heart is set on a bassinet buy a used one because you won’t use it long.

We are going straight to a crib when they're born.  But we're having twins, they can share one for awhile.  I have no first hand experience(ftm), but did lots of research and decided this was best for us.  One of the many (and the only one i can think of that would be relevant to a singleton)reasons I chose a crib is because it's easier to transition to a crib when they are little versus later.
