I get 6 weeks prior to birth (mandatory) and 8 weeks after birth with 100% salary. After that an additional 12-14 months with 65 % pay, and the father also gets 12-14 months . :)

In England you get a year with full pay first 6 months half the last 6. I think a year is a good time.

That’s crazy that so many people are talking about mat leave as a matter of weeks! I can’t even imagine trying to afford being pregnant, having the baby and then going to work weeks later!

In Australia I get 3 months full pay or 6 months half pay and then the government pays up to 18 weeks after that , not a lot but better than nothing

I'm in the US, and my company is the most generous I've seen. They give me 12 weeks 100% or 16 weeks at 75%. They are the ones choosing to offer that to employees because STD is only 70% for 6 weeks and my company pays the rest. From a career perspective, I think it's fair because I chose the career I have and any more than that would be an unfair burden on my company and my team. From a family perspective, I wish I could take more but I highly value my career as I am the high earner for our family.

I’m a stay at home mum and I won’t be going back to work until all my kids have started school, no amount of money can make up for this time and I understand that not everyone is able to live on one income but it makes me so sad that the governments/work places think that anything less then 1 year is reasonable!! Far out my youngest didn’t even let my mum hold him until he was 8 months old. I couldn’t imagine having to leave him even now 😔

FMLA is good for 6 weeks if vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for c-section. I plan to get short term disability insurance to help with pay, but I’ll only get paid by the school system for time in which I have leave. America really needs to reconsider values in this aspect. Luckily my husband will get a month of paid leave with his company for paternity leave and won’t have to use any vacation or sick time.

I would LOVE 6-12 months! I live in the US and work at a public university. I only get up to 12 weeks; the only paid days are my vacation/sick leave, and once that’s used up it’s unpaid. I also have to pay my health insurance, which normally comes out of my paycheck, while I’m unpaid. That’s considered “good” where I live. After my first, I started having major panic attacks and depression. Three years later and I still don’t have sick time banked. I don’t know what I’m going to do after this one... I don’t feel like I can go through that again, but I don’t think we can afford to live on one income either. 😢
