Skin-to-Skin?

Question

Can anyone tell me why skin-to-skin contact is important for new moms and babies? 
Also, I see some dads doing it too. Is there a point to that?
Sorry, clueless over here! I’ve never been pregnant and I see it all the time!

Bonding, milk production, regulate body temps, helps calm the baby as they can hear the heartbeat better, and just nice snuggles.

There are a ton of benefits. My second baby developed a very fast heart rate when he came out, they took him away for a minute to check him over then gave him back and the nurses told me skin-to-skin would slow his heart rate back to normal. They checked on him a few minutes later and it was normal. Also it feels so, so good. I can honestly say the 3 best hours of my life are the first 1.5 hours I spent with both of my babies doing skin-to-skin.

He also regulate their temp and creates a bond between baby and mom and dad. It also helps milk production in mamas. My little girl loves skin to skin time but she also just loves to be on my chest

Skin to skin is even beneficial to us as well 😉 it releases oxytocin- happy/ love hormone. I had an alarm on my phone to get skin to skin with my partner while we were trying to conceive 😊

As everyone else have said, it helps with temperature, milk poduction and it should release hormones to make bonding easier. Baby will also be able to hear the heart which is well known and everything else out in this big world is a bit scary.
