So, I am 8w pregnant & still breastfeeding. As someone who just went through ttc without weaning, here are my notes:
- First, your period might not come back for a while if you're breastfeeding. It took me 21 months to get mine back! That means that if you're ttc before getting your period back, you'd have to be lucky enough to catch that first ovulation (that would cause your first period two weeks later), which you could do but you'd be kind of shooting blind.
- I got my period back, then about 6 months later started ttc (still breastfeeding). So I was having periods, but they were far from regular, which is common while breastfeeding. My cycles ranged in length from 21 to 39 days! This makes it really hard to predict your ovulation. The month I got pregnant, we tried during the time I thought I'd ovulate... but it turns out we got it by chance having sex during what I thought was the tww 🤷🏼
Tl;dr-- it's definitely possible but it has some extra challenges!

I got pregnant again about 8 months after my son self weaned. We were not trying though. I didn't use birth control when my son was breastfeeding.
