My boyfriend works for the MUA for the town we live in and it’s a government job. He has been there for 3 years, full time. He does construction, water main breaks, asphalt, concrete, all of it. He is only 20 years old and he even worked there part-time when he was younger doing like grass cutting, etc. Well my boyfriend is the lowest paying man there at this job, and one of the hardest working mans there. He gets paid $11.00 an hour. He has amazing benefits, great time off and vacation. My boyfriend is VERY dedicated to his job everyday but he is getting tired and beat up quick from this laboring and the money is not even worth it. He is constantly getting water certificates to higher his knowledge, he knows how to work so many machines at his work, that people that have been there 10 years don’t know how to function them. They are constantly sending him down the water main break holes because 1. he knows what to do, and 2. he’s so young. Last night they his supervisor called him asking him to come in for a water main break and he said yes. Even though Friday night he worked 6 am to 2 am. Friday night he was so tired and drained. I live in New Jersey and outside it was like 100 degrees out! He has asked for a raise plenty of times and they just carrot him, they say “I see you are the lowest paying man here and you work so hard, I’m going to be looking into it, and get you raise, etc” and than nothing happens! He thinks if he stays there longer he will be making 100,000 a year like his supervisors now. But he isn’t even making enough to save his money! I am just really really tired of him working his ass off and they are working him like a dog, with $11.00 an hour.
