How do you know when it is labour??? I have had sharpish pains in the vagina for twenty minutes now... they make me flinch a bit!

Sounds like lightning crotch. I've got it right now too lol. Contractions are more like period cramps.

Everyone is different, but this is not what labor felt like for me. From your description it sounds more like lightening crotch, but I could be wrong. To me, labor felt like intense period cramps. The pain was not in my vagina but rather in my lower pelvis.

Sounds more like ‘lightening crotch!’ - sharp shooting pains in your lady parts! 
Labour... might be different for everyone but from my labour experience it started with dull period cramps and intensified and got way... way... worse so.... you don’t really question it...
