My period didn’t start yet

It was supposed to come today and my doctor said to start my pills the first day of my period or the day it ends that Sunday, it didn’t come today although it’s usually realllyy regular so it’ll probably come tomorrow but, what’s the different between starting it the day your period begins versus when it ends ???
