Speech therapy??

Question

Hi everyone!  My son is almost 23 months old and only saying 4 or 5 words.  We took him to a hearing and speech evaluation at our pediatrician’s recommendation and they said he has a speech delay and needs therapy twice a week.
Has anyone else gone through this?  Did it help?  My son seems super bright other than not talking but he can match shapes and colors, can follow instructions, makes eye contact and interacts with people so I don’t think there’s anything else wrong.  Just nervous and looking for some others who’ve gone through this!  Thank you!

My son has been in speech for a couple of months now (same age as yours) and he’s THRIVING!! They see him twice a week. He has progressed so much and has just now started to say “no mommy” which is his first 2 word saying.

My son is almost 3. He started speech therapy at 2 1/2. He literally only said dada or mama. That was it. My pediatrician wanted me to wait until he was 3 to see where he was. I disagreed. I had birth to 3 come in and do an evaluation. He has a expressive language delay! Finding out what was wrong and how I could effectively help my son was the best thing we could ever do for him. He receives speech therapy once a week. He will graduate out of birth to 3 once he turns 3. Because he started later, I requested additional therapy through our school district. He will still receive weekly therapy from the speech therapist at school, and qualified for occupational therapy as well. He’s super bright, super affectionate, takes direction well, points things out, knows his letters and numbers, all of that. We’ve seen so much progress with him throughout these 6 months. He went from full meltdowns, to learning how to sign, then started to repeat things, and now can effectively communicate so much better. He’s still behind but making progress every day! My advice? Embrace any help you can get. It is hard, frustrating, and sometimes defeating. But when things start to click and you see progress, it’s the best feeling in the world!

My son had a speech delay. Everything else was completely normal and honestly half the time it was like he just couldn’t be bothered with words! He had some speech therapy but honestly he started coming along in leaps and bounds all by himself, he’ll have a few weeks where he’s just constantly saying more and more. He’s still behind a bit but he’s definitely getting there! I know it can be scary but he will be fine. My son has been tested for any other issues and he has none, it’s just that his speech is delayed. He’s 5 now and he’s doing so well, I can have full, normal conversations with him and a few years ago I was worried that I never would. But you know what? Even if it turns out that your son has something else going on or it just takes him a while to get where he needs to be, so what? No two kids are the same and you and your son will be fine and happy no matter what! 😊

My son was saying “momma & da da” then completely stopped for a few months. At age 2 he was barely saying anything at all. I was literally days away from calling to find a speech therapist when I come home from work & my cousin (visiting from out of state) casually mentions how he & my son were saying all his colors. I’m like umm what!!??? 😦 Yep apparently he was choosing not to speak & just observing & picking up everything all along. After that day I swear to god his vocabulary went from 3 words to 20 in a month. He will be 3 in August & he is incredibly intelligent. People are shocked when they find out his age. 
I’d give it some more time, that’s just my opinion. My nephew was the same way, said nothing then boom! Sentences. 
If he isn’t saying at least 8-10 words within the next few months I’d take him to see a speech therapist. It sound weird but a few months in baby land is huge.

My son is 21 months right now and only has 3 to 4 words my doctor isnt pushing speech therapy yet, but coming from working in a daycare background I found kids with speech delays always picked up after 2

My son is 2. We have been doing speech therapy since 18 months because he wasn’t saying anything! He is just now starting to mimic us with sounds. The therapy is amazing because it not only works with our son but it helps us understand what we need to be doing to help him! It can never hurt so why not!

My daughter went through this, only she didn’t say much of anything. She was almost 2 at the time. Her pediatrician said if by 2 1/2 she hadn’t started speaking then we would explore the option of speech therapy. Apparently where is live, it’s easier to get the kiddos in before 3 years old. One day out of the blue she got an ear infection. It was treated and a month later she had another. This was our cycle for about 5 months before tubes were suggested. I’m not sure where she developed chronic ear infections from. I had one as a child and my husband never had any. 
Anyway, she had tubes put in her ears and you wouldn’t believe the difference they made. She went from being almost non verbal to talking up a storm. Unfortunately one set of tubes wasn’t enough and she ended up getting a second set. She’s perfectly healthy otherwise. She does have a tiny lisp that only I seem to notice with certain words but I’m sure at some point it will go away.

Speech therapy??
