What’s with all the lists of “rules”?

I must have missed something. I don’t think my family would want to even be bothered with us if we had to go that far. I’d rather just be verbal and tell people what’s ok and what’s not when it comes to my kid as needed. 4 babies and I’ve never felt the need to sit down and write anything out for the hospital

I agree. If your people are really that rude that you actually need to tell them to not come visit a newborn if they are sick, then a list probably won't fix that. And you'll probably offend those who don't even need the list to begin with. We just told people as it came up. Like reminded them to wash hands. And my MIL tends to wear way too much perfume, so my husband just asked her not to. My sister is a social media fiend so I just told her no posting. I don't see the point of posting a whole big list.

I didn’t do it with my first. My sister-in-law asked if she could post on social media and I just said wait until after I do please and all was good 🤷‍♀️

And most of it you can control in person anyway. If you don’t want someone in your hospital room, don’t let them in. Don’t hand your baby over until people wash their hands and remind them no kissing when you do. Ask for the baby back and for people to leave when you get tired. The social media thing is the trickiest and it sucks if your family and friends won’t respect that. You can try to curb it by asking them not to take pictures or post them if you see them start. 
It’s really about decent human interaction. For the most part, I see these rules as common sense and courtesy. If the people in your life are lacking that to begin with, a meme or sheet of paper is not going to fix that. It is just going to create more problems. People who are going to show up without an invite and not leave when asked aren’t going to change because you posted something on Facebook.

I tell my husband what I want and he gets the word out. Both our families are super okay with whatever I want for my child, though his family is definitely more vocal when they think what I’m doing is silly, but they’ll follow all my rules regardless. They’re just a little more openly opinionated about my family, who’s more “polite”? socially. We word things more carefully, I guess. Not bad, just different. I guess it depends on your relationship with your family and how heavily people need boundaries set. I can just say “I don’t like that” and my family will listen but other families might need a solid “HELL NO” type of boundary, lol

I regretted not writing a list of rules with my first. My dad showed up at the door two minutes after delivery; reeking of cigarettes, and refusing to look at me until I put my boob away.... my step mom kept trying to get flash photos while trying to kiss him. I tried to state my views, but they kept telling me that they knew best. 🙄 They weren’t the only ones, but they were definitely the most vocal about my “uprightness.” I’ve outlined the rules carefully and politely. But this go around, I will not be bullied.

My family doesn’t know boundaries very well. So instead of telling them a ‘list of rules’ verbally, and repeatedly telling them to each and every one of my family members, I wrote them down and posted it on my social media🤷🏻‍♀️ a bit easier for our situation. We just really don’t want visitors in the hospital

I think they are so condescending and some weird complex. Maybe I’m just lucky because my family isnt dense but I could so see it creating problems if I worded it the way I’ve seen on here a few times.

The only rule I have when our boy is born is when you are sick please don't visit.I will not blame you if you don't visit because you are sick.But if you are sick and do visit and my baby gets sick sorry I will be mad.
