24 hours from line as dark as or peak??

So I’m going to try to word this the best way possible. I can’t find the answer on google so I figure I’ll see if any of you know. When an ovulation test line is AS DARK as the control line it is called positive, correct? But then a few hours from that positive test there is “peak” meaning the test line is now DARKER than the control. The first test was still positive but not peak yet, so is the approximate 24-36 hour ovulation countdown beginning at that first positive, or the peak positive? If it’s at the first positive, why keep testing till peak?
