Stretch marks AFTER delivery?

I posted a while ago asking when you first noticed getting stretch marks while pregnant. A lot commented that they didn’t get them until AFTER delivery. 🤔 Why is that? Didn’t make sense to me. (Assuming we are talking about tummy marks not breasts since breasts would make sense if larger while breastfeeding??)

I definitely got 80% of my stretch marks after birth! I’m guessing it’s from contractions and then when the baby’s born you lose half you stomach instantly but the skin doesn’t tighten back straight away

Immediately after birth my stomach shrank down immensely (my OB even commented on it as she was stitching me back up) and I think that’s why my stretch marks didn’t show up until after birth. My stomach was able to grow gradually over the 9 months but not so much after birth.

Stretch marks happen due to extreme weight gain AND/OR weight loss. So women’s bellies get huge and then shrink a ton/super fast after delivery which can cause the stretch marks.
