Is the morning after pill the same as an abortion?

My mother found my emergency contraceptive pill that I got with my birth control. She told me that it was an abortion pill, and that if I took it (depending on the time of the month) it was just like an abortion. She said that the pill does not prevent pregnancy, but ends it. I did research on it previously and read that it wasn’t an abortion pill, so now I am confused. What do you think?

Your mother, im sorry, is ignorant. If she’s referring to it getting rid of a fertilized egg.. Okay here I go. 
If the morning after pill is an abortion, so are your birth control pills. It has the same hormones as birth control pills. Just in a high dose if you need it all at once to stop a pregnancy from occurring. If anything, your birth control is more like an abortion. Here’s the thing. 
Both plan b and birth control are designed to to 3 things. 
-Prevent ovulation/egg releasing from ovary. 
-thicken cervical mucus to make it harder for sperm to survive in/get through 
-make the uterine lining inhabitable for a fertilized egg. 
SO, there’s a small chance you could ovulate on birth control. If you do, your uterine lining isn’t favorable for the egg to implant. Your birth control has had time to affect your uterus, plan he doesn’t have that time. Plan b is only scientifically proven to prevent ovulation. Facts are, it just doesn’t have time to affect your uterus. If you ovulate and then take plan b, the chances of it working are extremely slim to none. That’s why it is so much less affective compared to everyday birth control.

It also says, right on the box...”will not harm an existing pregnancy.”

It’s completely different. It stops a pregnancy from happening, and if you took one while you was already pregnant it wouldn’t hurt the baby at all.

As someone who is personally against abortion (idc if anyone else decides to do that, your life not mine, I’m not judging you, jut my personal opinion :) ) I don’t consider plan B or the morning after pill to be abortion. It’s only abortion if there is a viable fetus with a heart beat and spinal cord. That’s my opinion. If it can feel it happening, meaning that it has nerves (spinal cord) then it’s abortion. But in the first month or so, it cannot. So the morning after pill is not abortion whatsoever.

All plan b is, is the hormone progesterone. It prevents ovulation but if you take it and are already pregnant it will not do anything since the hormone promotes gestation. Like it says in the name.

Nope. Its to prevent ovulation if it hasnt happened already. If it has happened and your egg gets fertilized the pill will not even effect your pregnancy. I learned the pill has the same hormones that actually support your pregnancy. She needs to do more research and stop talking crap 🤷‍♀️
