The more you pump the more milk you produce.. so the less you pump ..your supply decreases.

I was pumping but it was very painful with the constant clogged milk ducts and becoming inflamed (early mastitis) needing antibiotics so i wanted to stop completely. My OB recommended to wean down how many times you pump every day however I didn’t want to pump ever again so i got a second opinion from my LO pediatrician who is a Lactation specialist. This is what i did following her advice.

I wore a very tight sports bra

I didn’t let hot water hit my chest in shower

I soaked a newborn diaper in water and let them sit in freezer to make ice packs, then i would put in my bra for pain relief

I Placed cabbage leaves over entire my breast/ nipple ( this really helped with pain)

.. The whole process was VERY PAINFUL. I couldn’t even hold my newborn during this time because of the pain. I needed a lot of help from family to care for my LO. I cried so much, couldn’t sleep because i was so uncomfortable.

I only pumped when I couldn’t take the pain any longer. I would pump until i felt a little more comfortable then i would stop. I never emptied my breasts.

I took Advil and Tylenol around the clock for the pain.

I dried myself up in 4/5 days.. but again very painful and uncomfortable.

I would ask your OB again about drying your supply up that quickly and ask if you did stop cold turkey like I did will you be at risk for a mastitis/ abscess (I was already being treated with antibiotics so the lactation specialist wasn’t concerned about that in my situation.

IDK your exact situation but if i were you I would have another conversation with your OB before trying to stop pumping completely.
