How young is too young for makeup?

My coworkers and I got into an interesting conversation today after one of the ladies said her 12 year old daughter wanted to buy make-up and learn to apply it because she doesn't feel pretty like the other girls in her class who apply make-up they learned off of YouTube.

I'm curious what everyone thinks. How young is too young for a girl (or boy) to be applying make-up? I personally think any girl 14 and under doesn't need to applying make-up.

This post isn't meant to be judgemental. I am purely curious what the opinions of others are.
