8/3 UPDATE! Post Nexplanon TTC

Christina

I went to my OB-GYN yesterday to schedule getting my nexplanon removed and my husband and I were planning on TTC right away. My doctor advised that we should wait 2-3 cycles to start trying-not that I wouldn’t be ovulating but that my body may not be ready for implantation and I could miscarry.

Has anyone else been told this? Or experienced this specifically with Nexplanon? Thanks!!!

UPDATE!

On Thursday I had the Nexplanon removed and I spoke with my doctor. She gave some pointers that I think could apply to other people as well.

If you had normal periods while on birth control you should be fine to TTC as soon as you have the Nexplanon removed (could apply to IUDs as well)

If your periods got lighter or less frequent, wait til you at least have a normal period to start TTC.

If your periods stopped all together, wait until you’ve had 2 to 3 regular cycles.

These aren’t hard, fast rules but just her suggestions to reduce the risk of early miscarriage due to improper implantation conditions.

Hope this helps!

Side note: I was reading on the internet that women were getting pregnant the day after they had Nexplanon removed. Well I tested myself with an opk and sure enough I was ovulating less than 24 hours after removal! (We are waiting until after my first period to TTC)
