What is "let down"

Question

I keep seeing this and I'm not understanding. Is it when the milk flows out of the breast by itself after baby nursing or pumping? My baby isnt here yet, but I plan to breastfeed and I'm trying to understand how it all works so I can be successful. 
What else do I need to know?

When baby first latches, she will suck fast to get the milk flowing, when it does, it's called a "letdown". You might feel it as a prickly or rushing sensation, but then it quickly stops as baby keeps eating. You might be able to get multiple letdowns if baby is persistent as well! You aim for multiple letdowns when pumping too (many pumps can mimic this by starting out with lighter but faster suction, then changes to slower and harder suction) because it helps collect milk much faster!

tips for breastfeeding - don’t give up. it’s different for everyone ! 
for some it comes easy and for others not so much. 
it’s been difficult for me but i’m glad i stuck with it. 
make sure to stay hydrated and take your prenatal still. 
if you haven’t already look into getting your pump thru insurance that way you have it by the time baby comes. 
lopsidedness is okay - don’t forget to switch sides when feeding lol
